Change frequency via Cluster Scanner?

Post by NN7D »

I just upgraded my IC-751 with a Piexx board and now have CAT control! BTW, I had previously installed Omnirig and had the IC-751 selected. When I plugged in the serial cable from the Piexx board to my computer, Log4OM instantly connected to the rig. No fussing, all the default comm settings worked. How often does that happen? Ok, so I am grinning ear to ear, enjoying the Cluster Scanner and auto tuning to cluster reports. Cool!

Now, when using the Cluster Scanner, I can easily move up and down the band - IF there are stations reported, by double clicking on the call sign. But if I want to move up and no stations are reported up band, is there a way to move up, or scan up? This is probably a suggestion for there to be a simple scan up or down button on the Cluster Scanner tab. Not sure if that is feasible.

Barring the above, can anyone suggest a simple Rig CAT control software that would work with my IC-751 and Log4OM? Not sure how two programs can share the comm port to the Piexx board, so that I could tune around without touching the rig?

This is new frontier for me (CAT control), so forgive my ignorance.

Thanks!

Doug,

Com ports cannot be used by two programs at the same time, however:

Using Omnirig does allow two Omnirig based programs to share the port, alternatively:

There are programs called "virtual serial port emulators" that create if you like imaginary com port connection which can be shared by multiple programs.

Now the problem is finding a simple rig control program that will work with either of these!

Probably the easiest one is called FLrig from the FLDigi web site but this would require a virtual serial port emulator (VSP) because FLrig does not use Omnirig.

I use the VSP Manager from Eterlogic which works very well and allows up to nine programs to share my rig connection at the same time and perfectly synchronised.

Finally there is not a scanning facility in Log4om and at this time no plans to add one, we do however have on our Mantis list the possibility of adding memories (Favourites)

Hope this helps

Terry, I figured you would have a wealth of knowledge on this subject. Very good info! I will digest it and figure something out I am sure. Thanks much for sharing your experience!

Terry,

FYI, I found a simple rig control which also utilizes Omnirig and gets along with Log4OM. Its HamPort from DXSoft. http://www.dxsoft.com/en/products/hamport/ Seems to work fine for basic tune up and down the band in 3 differnent step sizes. Khz, 10ths Khz, and 100th Khz. They get along well, i.e. when you move the freq with Log4OM, the freq readout in HamPort follows, and if you change the freq via HamPort, the freq display in Log4OM - Cluster scanner follows. Very cool! And of course the rig follows both.

I also set up Log4OM to start HamPort automatically via Settings, Settings 2 tab. Works like a champ!

That is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks Terry!
