Lookup without logging?

Post by KB1RT »

I'm confused. Is it possible to do a callsign lookup but not log it as a QSO?

I normally use LOG4OM exclusively fed by UDP from WSJT-X. But if I see a CQ from someone, I might want to, say, look up their state by hand. I tried this: I typed the call into LOG4OM, pressed <TAB>, and it logged it as a QSO. This was not what I wanted to do, and I deleted it.

Yes that is possible as I do it all the time. What version are you using?

Do you have "callsign search on TAB key" checked in the performances section in your configuration?

I can try to duplicate your setup if I can get more information

Thanks, I see what I did wrong.

The first time I tried a callsign lookup, I typed the callsign and pressed ENTER. That logged the QSO.
The second time I tried it, I typed the callsign and pressed TAB. That just did the lookup.

As for settings:
"Perform call search on leave" is not checked
"Callsign search on TAB key" is greyed out and not checked

But that doesn't really affect my fundamental mistake: ENTER logs a QSO, TAB (or wait or leave field) does only a lookup. I had been doing logging only via UDP from WSJTX, and never learned about how to log a QSO manually.

Glad you got it figured out. It should work exactly as you need it to :)
