Cat Status remains red

Post by W4KCM »

All logging function working great - upload download to eQSL and LoTW without any problems.

I am having problems with cat status remaining red. I can see the freq chance in the Log4OM frequency window if I select a DX station from one of the cluster reports. However since there is not any communication established between Omni Rig and Log4OM - nothing changes on the rig, a TS-2000.

Log4OM 1.17.10
JT65 1.0.9
JT Alert 2.4.15
Win 7 (New Build)
Omni-Rig - recent download - Running under admin rights, also running as windows XP service pack 3
TS-2000 rig selected

I can control the TS-2000 via HRD so the com port and cable are working. The cable I am using is a Hose-nose USB to DB9 converter cable.

Programs Start sequence

Kenwood TS 2000 on
Omni Rig - 2 seconds B4 Log4OM
Log4om
JT Alert - 4 seconds after Log4OM
JT65HF - 6 seconds after Log4OM

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would need to pull a complete list for everything running in the background but I know I am running
Norton antivirus, a timing program from the Thinking Man site to adjust my computer clock, then from post start up - the programs that I start follow:

Google Chrome for a browser - usually open to QRZ and HamSpots( two or three tabs open)
Omni rig
Log4OM
JT Alert
JT 65HF

Computer is new - win 7, I5 Intel CPU @ 4.3 GHZ, 16G ram, Asus mobo Deluxe.

I hope I answered your question correctly.

Hi James,
I think that what I suspected is happening, now that you have provided the screen shot.

When you select Omnirig in the Log4OM Options/CAT & Cluster tab and configured it for your rig then every time Log4OM is started it will automatically start Omnirig and connect to your radio (Provided the radio is connected and turned on) you do not need to add it to the External Software start list!

By trying to start a second instance of Omnirig in the Settings 2 tab you are effectively trying to run the Omnirig program twice!

I believe that because the com port is being used by the first occurrence of Omnirig which was started by Log4om when the program was started that the second instance of Omnirig can't connect to the com port because it is already in use and therefore displays the not connected red LED.

You need to disable and remove the Omnirig entry from the Setting 2 tab of the options and restart Log4OM

Thanks Terry,
Removed the command to start Omni-Rig, saved the configuration, closed Log4OM and all programs, restarted the computer, started Log4OM, auto start JT65 and JT65 ALERT okay - CAT Still inop. No communications to the radio.

Please disable all the JT65 stuff temporarily

Save the settings and close Log4om

Referring to the Log4om user guide make certain that Log4om is being run as an administrator

Restart Log4om

Check that you have the correct Rig, com port and Baud rate set in Omnirig

Ensure that the Baud rate matches that set on the rig

I can assure that it all works fine because I got my TS2000 down from the loft and it connected first time, I also checked my TS480 and no issue with that either so it has to be something set up incorrectly at you QTH it's just a matter of elimination.

Another question because I notice that you are a relatively new user of Log4om

Did your rig ever connect to Log4om?

Also do you have Skype or Teamviewer?

Removed the external program auto start feature
Checked that Log4OM is running as administrator
Checked that Omni-Rig is running as Win XP-SP3 and with admin rights
saved all the configurations,
Confirmed that com port 3 is the communications port - as determined by connecting to HRD at 9600 baud
closed HRD, power cycle the ts-2000, restarted the computer,
started Log4OM - I can see Omni rig.exe running via task manager but I am not communicating with the rig.
I know it has to be my set up and I appreciate your help with my issue.
As to your other questions - Log4OM has never connect the CAT to the rig with this current setup.
Skype / Teamviewer is not loaded on this computer.
