Shared Database Mismatch

Post by k9bm »

I am using the latest release of Log4OM v2.34.0 and my database is on OneDrive. I usually only use the program on one computer but recently used it on a second machine (both Windows 10) where I had the WSJT SuperFox release installed. This configuration has worked perfectly for years now, all I needed to do is hit the refresh button and both installations would bi in sync. But a couple of weeks ago it stopped syncing. Now I have QSOs logged on one install that don't appear on the other, and vice versa. Clicking the refresh button or restarting the program does nothing to sync, even though both installs are still pointing to the exact same database. Any suggestions on troubleshooting? At least is there some way I can sync the two programs? 73....Brad K9BM

OK, well can anyone tell me how I can get one installation to sync with the other, using the exact same database on Microsoft OneDrive? Now, when I log a QSO on one computer the QSO does not appear when I start up Log4OM on the other. And vice versa. It's like they're using different databases, but they're not. I need to sync the last two weeks of logged contacts, and then fix it so once again the two installations using the same database actually show the latest logged contacts when clicking the REFRESH button. Thanks....

Brad,

This sounds like another case of a windows update changing the priveledges of files/folders which stops them being written to.

I have found OneDrive to be particulary prone to these issues, I suppose beause its a Microsoft facility, whereas Google Drive and Dropbox have worked faultlessly for years.

Try relocating the Sqlite file to either of the two cloud stores mentioned above but be aware that you must install GD or Dropbox on each PC and set them to sync, just storing in the cloud can cause issues.

I currently have almost the same set up as you except I use Win 11 and Google Drive, one PC is in the shack and the other is my laptop for portable ops and they sync fine.

Terry, thanks so much for the reply. Since my setup CAN'T fail but HAS FAILED the only reasonable explanation is the one you offer. I already have Dropbox on both Windows machines, so I will just move the database there. I'll look at the Lopg4OM manual to see what other implications that may have, what exact files to move, etc. But how can I sync things, since at the moment I have some logged contacts that appear on one Log4OM installation but not the other, AND vice versa? That's the thing I just can't wrap my head around--if both installations are using the same database, that situation just CAN'T happen unless both copies of Log4OM have started writing logged contacts to an unknown local database, not the one shown in the green lit box in the lower right corner of the screen. The local database would have to still have access to the years of older log entries, which are still displayed. Very weird....

The file to move is the sqlite database as shown extreme bottom right of log4om UI

Providing both pc's are using a common sqlite file and both instances of Dropbox are set to synchronise, then the local instance of log4om on each machine should update as soon as the program loads and at regular intervals thereafter.

But they must both be set to open the same database in the same folder

With the installed version of Dropbox or GD each pc has an instance of the database stored locally as well as on the cloud and it is the database that syncs with the cloud one
