Update V2.36.0.0

Post by G0DJA »

I'm a bit concerned by the note in the revision for the latest update that says "Introduced “deprecated modes” concept. Initially applied to SSB, will make this mode unselectable from data entry functions".

I do hope this 'feature' is able to be switched off? I have decided not to update until I'm sure that this is able to be reveresed as I regularly use CW and I fear that mode will be the next victim.

What next? RTTY, AM? All still in use. Then I guess FM, as digital is becoming more common.

Dont panic, this only affects exporting ADIF files not the functionality of the modes in the software or your logbook. Import of depreciated modes is not affected.

Possibly the description was not very good and lost something in translation :-)

OK, so this doesn't mean that the entry of an SSB contact directly from the main screen is turned off? That's what it seemed to imply.

I'm not sure what it's intended to do then?

Even if it only means exporting through ADIF, I still fail to see the benefit?

For instance, there's a popular set of activity/contest evenings called the UKAC and most stations still use SSB. If it's not possible to export SSB contacts via ADIF then people who enter those activities won't be able to put in an entry using Log4OM, will they?

I'm at a loss as to what use this feature is and still would like some assurance that the user can turn it off please.

I think your reading too much into this and I totaly agree the wording is not completely clear and somewhat confusing, something got lost in translation :-)

The release notes are being revised as below

Log4OM QSO’s are saved as USB/LSB, however quiet often other programs mark them as "SSB".

This creates additional logic/coding in our software to "match" USB/LSB to SSB when the incoming QSO from external programs or imported ADIF files has SSB as the mode instead of USB/LSB

For this reason, SSB is no longer listed in our mode lists. Existing QSO’s marked SSB remain unchanged but new QSO’s should only be identified as USB or LSB.

These changes ONLY apply to the mode list menu’s for NEW QSO’s, editing OLD QSO’s still provides SSB as a selection.

As some of our users seem very concerned about this change, even though the change won't have any real effect on normal usage, we have made the optimization of the mode list totally optional and it is disabled by default.

To turn this feature on see the Program settings tab in the Program Config in the latest release.

Glad I ran into this thread, I think it's hitting on an issue I just found. Today I downloaded from LOTW and Log4OM could not "find" my SSB QSO's because they had been entered as USB by the program. I had to manually change each of the USB entries to SSB and then LOTW download did match and update those entries. This seems like a real pain and it didn't do this prior. Is there a way to match USB/LSB to incoming SSB QSO's without having to edit each record? Yea, I realize I can change it on-screen for each entry prior to recording, but that is also a bit of a pain to remember.
