previous QSO searching, sudden slowdown

Post by VK7XX »

Up until yesterday, whenever I type a callsing in to the log entry window it has been reasonably fast in populating the QSO Information window with previous contacts. Yesterday I noticed a dramatic slow down of this process. What used to be almost instant now takes around 10 to 15 seconds.

Thinking that maybe the database had suffered, I exported all contacts (adif) then created a new database and imported all my contacts. Nothing has improved. Populating the QSO Information window is still very slow... I currently have 52028 contacts in the SQLite database. Is this too many ??? Should I be switching over to a full MySQL database ??? Or, does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the cause of the sudden and dramatic slowdown ???

Hi John,
No need to change to MySQL the SQLite database is good for up to 120k records.

You could try a new install of Log4om and also make sure that the number of displayed records has not been changed (lower right corner of window)

Did you or auto update install anything in the last couple of days?

Thanks for your reply Terry. No, nothing added or subtracted from the 'puta for quite a while. I am about to go out so will try the program reinstallation tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed.

OK, did a program 'remove' and reinstall. Time to populate the F7 QSO information window still seems about the same but hard to tell so will just keep on keeping on. And the number on the bottom corner of the F8 Recent QSO window is unchanged... I set it at 1000 some time ago and it has remained the same..... Even if that had changed tho, it makes no difference to the list displayed on the F7 window which is every contact ever logged for the callsign in the callsign box.

Thanks again for the suggestions Terry

Could be a database glitch. Try exporting all to ADIF then recreate new database importing back your data...
(keep old database somewhere to increase security...)

Could a fragmented database file play a part in this?
You've never known happiness until you're married; but by then it is too late.

Hello Guy. It is a computer, so everything is possible :-) However, I thought that by creating a new database all would be contiguous and, when doing that made little or no difference, I did run my defrag program (still running XP here) which still made no change. So now, I just put up with it.

can we arrange a remote session sometime?
I'm interested in checking some things...
in the meanwhile i'm adding some more statistics on query execution to be checked...
