sequence of fields when using TAB key

Post by HB9BRJ »

After having entered about 200 historic QSOs manually (I'm migrating from paper log to Log4OM) I think the sequence of fields (when moving with the TAB key) can be improved. Up to now I was not able to enter a QSO without using the mouse. Probably I'm missing something.

Callsign TAB Name TAB Sent TAB Rcvd TAB Cluster spot TAB Add:
Fortunately I was not connected to a cluster, because hitting ENTER while the green Cluster spot icon is active triggers a spot. Rather than the Cluster spot I would like to see a jump from Rcvd RST to the Auto increase Add button to add additional time increments (not all QSOs are equidistant in time) and from there to the QSO Add button.

When entering historic QSOs in Manual Time mode, you initially have to set Date, Start Time and End Time. Within theses 3 fields the arrow keys (all 4 directions) can be used, that's perfect. But I didn't find a way to jump from Date to Start Time and from there to End Time without using the mouse.

Maybe one of the power users can explain how "mouse-less" entry of historic QSOs can be done more efficiently.
Thanks in advance!

Marcus,
I think that we need to have a different sequence for manually adding historic QSO's, the sequence we have now is really designed for entering real time QSO's

The tab action after (Tab) Rcvd only highlights the "Spot" button....

From this position you have the choice of (Enter/return) to add spot data followed by another (Enter/return) to send the spot

or

(Tab) twice to move onto the "Comments" field (Tab) Notes - (Tab) Mode - etc and at anytime click (Enter/return) to "Add" the entry to the log

So realistically we require an "Enter historic record (EHR)" button which then changes the tab order to that required for your situation

Perhaps you would be kind enough to provide a detailed field progression list for this purpose so that I can add this as a new function to our mantis list

Terry,

Good idea to have separate tab orders for real-time entry and entry of historic records.
Here is my proposal for an EHR mode minimum sequence:

Callsign > Name > Sent > Rcvd > Mode > Band > Date > Start Time > End Time > QSO Add.

First I was tempted to insert Auto increase Add right after End Time, with the possibility to add multiple increments with the RETURN key, but then I thought it's not needed because the tab order takes you to Start Time and End Time before.

In those few rare cases where you want to enter anything additional I think it is fine to use the mouse.

Marcus
The first parameter must be to set mode, band and date time to manual entry, this should be done automatically when "EHR" button or check box is selected

Try using PAGE UP - PAGE DOWN to change end time by the set value.
No need to go into time area if QSO are in short sequence, just use keyboard...

i correctly understood your needs?

Daniele,
Yes, you understood my problem. Great to learn that PageUp/PageDown modify both start and end times by the defined auto increase interval, even if the cursor is placed in another field! This helps a lot when manually entering historic QSO records.

Terry,
Please add the PageUp/PageDown manual time adjustment functionality to the user manual, page 46.

Thanks to both of you for an excellent software product as well as outstanding responsiveness and user support!
