Changed country names

Post by VK5PL »

I have just started adding my old paper log to Log4OM & it is interesting to see what stations I worked starting back in 1980.
How do you enter countries that have changed name, become independent etc since then.
eg I worked the West Caroline islands (KC6ZR) & it did not appear as that.
It may be Micronesia now as the QSL card has Micronesia on it.
I may have other countries that have changed & was wondering how to enter them.
I see on the F2 tab you can select a country, so I did put micronesia.
How do I get the correct DCXX number if I do not know what it is?
I have only been back into radio a couple of years after a 22 year hiatus.

PS I just found one YU2CKH that says Serbia, but in my log I have Yugoslavia.
PPS I also have an East Germany - Y79ZL

If you go to my web page: http://www.k7pt.com/home.htm

You'll see a button called "DXCC Codes to Names Listing" it will show you the current DXXC entities with their codes.

The old QSOs depend on the QSO date and some may be with now "Deleted Entities".

You can edit each QSO, in the F8 tab right click on the qso and select "edit QSO' then the Country IOTA SOTA tab, and change the Entity name but be careful as the old ones which may have been deleted.

I did see that tab but some of the countries that existed in 1980 do not exist now, so there is no name to enter.
I started amateur radio in 1980 & have started to enter in those old QSOs. I am up to 1981 now & only about 1100 more to go.
I guess I can't put the correct countries in even if they existed back then.

If you go to the ARRL web page for DXCC Entities you may be able to find what those old ones are now. Down at the bottom is the various listing for deleted entities. Hope this helps:
