Hi,
I suspect this is a bug but best to start here as a support request in case I've missed something...
Windows 7, upgraded to Log4OM v 1.21.0.0 this morning. Since doing the upgrade, each time I try and open my K1EL USB Winkeyer through Log4OM, the action freezes up Log4OM entirely. I have to kill Log4OM (not just the Keyer Log4OM process/window) via Task Manager and restart. This issue is 100% repeatable. I've tried rebooting the PC and unplugging/replugging the keyer but to no effect. The same hardware configuration worked tickedy-boo with the previous Log4OM version; all that's changed is the Log4OM upgrade...

So starting from a fresh boot of the computer and then starting Log4om at what point does the Winkeyer freeze the program - when you open Winkeyer, connect to the Winkeyer etc?

Re: K1EL USB Keyer - Log4OM freeze v1.21.0.0
Lock-up occurs when I attempt to open Winkeyer using the button with the green "wheel" on it (is it a wheel?) on the bottom right hand side of the Log4OM K1EL Winkeyer window. I confirm this issues occurs even when Log4OM is fired-up immediately following a clean PC boot.
Up to the point where I click the open keyer button everything is OK i.e. I can open the Log4OM K1EL Winkeyer window and it's responsive until such point as I click the button, thereafter it's a show stopper I'm afraid...
Perhaps somewhat unusually, in Task Manager any/all Log4OM processes do not change from "running" to "not responding" after the lock-up occurs. Though the Log4OM processes remain flagged as "running", the application becomes completely unresponsive and doesn't recover even if left for several minutes...

Re: K1EL USB Keyer - Log4OM freeze v1.21.0.0
Are you certain that the correct com port is selected in the Winkeyer settings tab?

Re: K1EL USB Keyer - Log4OM freeze v1.21.0.0
Terry,
Morning. Yes I've the correct port selected, it's looking at this stage like I've a problem with my Winkeyer hardware. I suspect maybe that the serial/USB chip in the keyer may have given up or the on board EPROM or some such has somehow got corrupted
I can't get the keyer to talk to K1EL's wktest on any of a few different PCs and there are odd things going on with the driver installation & behaviour when I connect the keyer to a PC...
Apologies for having suspected Log4OM - nothing more than a coincidence that I first noticed the problem following the upgrade, I've not opened the keyer in a while and it was only coincidence that I went to fire it up yesterday after the SW upgrade and thereafter jumped to the wrong conclusion...
Apologies, thanks for your time.

Hi Cormac,
If you have the Winkeyer 3 chip you can update its firmware
Good luck and please keep me posted of your results

Re: K1EL USB Keyer - Log4OM freeze v1.21.0.0
Terry,
Just FYI - it would appear the issue is some corruption of FTDI serial to USB drivers and possibly a recent Windows update (I'm speculating but its the best I can come up with
); I've the Winkeyer and an RF Space SDR-IQ which have been playing together happily for a number of years on the same PC. Both use an FTDI chip; on all the PCs I was testing on (all Windows 7) both devices have been used. In the recent past something funny has occurred with the drivers for these devices and whatever the cause, the Winkeyer and SDR-IQ driver installations appear to have got messed up. Uninstalling both and re-installing them has sorted everything out... I had to uninstall and re-install both, just doing the Winkeyer wasn't enough to sort it out...

I have the winkeyer 3 chip, where is the firmware update? maybe that is why Log4OM cannot connect to my winkeyer.

Aldo,
I sent Lele a Winkeyer USB and a serial Winkeyer and I know he did start to investigate but I have not heard anything about it recently.
The USB Winkeyers 2.3 and above work fine it's just the serial Winkeyer users that have issues.
