all seems to be back in order as of now. I appreciate you eagerness to help. I think a few thing went bad. I think dropbox was involved. I have to think about how i am setup now. I have two computers with log4om, using dropbox. and things have gone wrong before. I am almost thinking if installing sql.... Is the manual documentation really complete in that aspect?

Unless you are accessing the database simultaneously from several computers at the same time or you have over 100,000 QSO's in your database you don't need MySQL it would just complicate things for you.
I use Dropbox and latterly Google drive without any problems and access the database from four different devices without issue so I don't see why Dropbox could cause your problem.
More likely it's something that was recently installed that screwed things up or perhaps you used something like C cleaner which very often causes issues
