OK Terry, it has now come good after numerous re-boots and re-installs. Not sure which one finally did the business. Only outstanding problem now is that Log4OM seems to have a very limited set of modes (particularly excluding LSB):

I seem to recall that there is a file containing all the modes, but cannot locate it.

Yes, there are no preferred modes showing, and no obvious way to add them. And now the original problem has returned...

Try Settings/update resources/modes
Cant understand why you alone are having all these issues, are you sure that you dont have a virus?

I have done a scan with Malwarebytes and Windows Defender have scanned the entire system with negative virus reports.
Settings/update resources/modes made no difference.
