"Log me on Automatically" Question

Post by N5INP »

Got the new version of Log4OM and no problems there, but I did have a question about the forum. And it's LOW priority so no big deal ...

I've never been able to get the "Log me on automatically each visit" function to work. I've checked the little box presented at log on, and it never stays checked. I've also looked at all my profile settings to no avail.

So, if anyone knows how to make it work and "stick" I'd appreciate it. ;)

I suspect this has something to do with your web browser security settings

Did you tell your browser to remember your log in name and password?

Hi Terry -

Well, my name and password is remembered in the dialog boxes on the log in screen, but I'm not "logged in automatically" by the forum.

Am I misunderstanding how it's supposed to work? I would have assumed that "logged in automatically" meant that when I returned to the forum, in a logged-out state, it would then log me back in automatically, perhaps by reading a cookie or some other mechanism ...

Whether or not the check box is checked, my name and password is "remembered", so I'm assuming logging in automatically is something additional the forum will do for you if you check that box, but it never does. I have to click the login button each time.

Seems it's not working, I just logged out and then returned to the site and had to login again.

Perhaps Daniele might have some ideas?

I'll check on settings but nothing has changed... on explorer works well, but I noticed that thing in chrome... can you make a test with internet explorer, if possible?

Tried Explorer - no go using it either. Played with it for 10 minutes and it won't work. Then went back to FF and removed the cookies associated with pisto.it phpbb. Closed FF and tried the forum again. Nothing bad happened but it still wouldn't auto-log me in.

I'll look over on the phpbb support forum to see if there's any info about it.

Did some research over at the phpBB support forum here -

https://www.phpbb.com/community/

Did a search for "log in automatically". Found several solutions, so I'm not going to clutter the post with all of them because I wouldn't have any idea which one is applicable (I'm pretty good with SMF forums but I've never run a phpBB forum). If you ever get any spare time (LOL right?) then perhaps you can try one of them here.

Anyways - back to DXing and getting ready for the contest activity this weekend! 8-)
