Couple of issues & suggestions.

Post by n2vro »

Hi,
New to the forum and new to the LOG4OM application. First off, loving LOG4OM. Great work!

I just upgraded to v1.24 from v1.23 this morning and after the upgrade my latest config file was no longer correct. It reverted back to a new config, as if I had just installed LOG4OM for the first time. I ended up resolving the issue by looking for my latest config backup and overwriting the current config with this backup. Not sure what happened here but thought I'd give ya my user experience. I am on Windows 10 64bit.

Couple of issues I have that I'm not sure how to resolve. They could very well be user-error or RTFM.
1. The antenna bearing value(F5 Extended info & QSL) is not populated for any operator after clicking on an operator from the cluster. How do I get this to work? See image where Antenna bearing has no value.
I have been instead doing the qrz lookup within log4om(thanks for fixing the IE scripting issue) and going to the operator's details tab to look at bearing. Which brings me to the next point.

2. Can it be set up so that the Look function (I have the external source set up for QRZ) happens automatically when I click on on operator? In other words, I would like for the QRZ lookup to occur once I click on an operator, without having to also click on Look.

3. Is there a way to expand the width of the F1-F6 panel? It would be nice if I could expand it wider and be able to view all F1-F6 tabs without having to scroll left/right. I have 24" widescreen monitors and have plenty of horizontal space.

3a. Is there a way to remove tabs if not needed? For example, I don't care about F6 SAT/Prop. How can I hide it? Or re-arrange?

4. Some of the text within the application seems to be cut off. See image . Specifically cluster pane on right side, listing of spots, the row height needs to be a little bit bigger. Also, the ADD and CLR buttons on the top right seem to be cut off as well.

5. I've noticed on more than one occasion now that the CAT connection is unable to control my rig (Kenwood TS-590S) after some time of inactivity. I have to power off the rig, close out of LOG4OM , power on the rig and re-launch LOG4OM in order for CAT control to work again. When the issue is present I confirm RIG is being seen by my computer by looking at my device manager on Window 10, I see the rig connected on COM5. I then launch OmniRig and confirm the CAT settings also show COM5, and finally that LOG4OM is set to RIG 1 the toolbar drop-down. It happens if say I go have lunch, rig is on, log4om is running. I come back from lunch and CAT controls no longer work. Doesn't happen all the time but it's happened at least 4-5 times now. Any ideas?

6. Because of my config file issue after upgrading to v1.24. I thought that maybe a suggestion would be a restore option within the application itself to revert back to a previous config.

Looking forward to learning how to use LOG4OM more as I spend more time with it.

Thanks all

I sometimes update 2 or 3 times a day in my role as an Alpha tester and never have this issue, are you using the default locations for the files?

This is because as a QRZ 'Ham member' (Like you don't pay for the lookups) you do not receive all of the information like there is no locator so we cant determine the heading and distance!!!!

Not at this time

No

Think that you my have the Windows settings to something different than 100% and also you might like to check the 'Show cluster ungrouped' selection in Options/cat and cluster - If there are several cluster spots for one call sign then the row becomes full

Check that your USB port is not going to sleep due to your energy savings settings - No voltage = No CAT

6. Because of my config file issue after upgrading to v1.24. I thought that maybe a suggestion would be a restore option within the application itself to revert back to a previous config.
Something to consider but your experience is very rare!

Ok that makes sense :/

You were spot on with the Windows settings. For whatever reason my Windows 10(recent upgrade from Win7) was on a custom scale for my displays. I reverted it back to normal and now all looks good within LOG4OM. Thanks!

I always have my USB ports set to do not sleep BUT since I just upgraded to Windows 10 and you now pointed me to the scaling issue I had. I'm going to make sure that my USB ports are still all set to sleep. Maybe after the upgrade Windows 10 reverted those settings to something else.

ok, no harm done just wanted to share my experience this morning with that.

Thanks for the help.
Greatly appreciated.
