Terry - THANK YOU!

Post by WA2SQQ »

Over the past few months I’ve been working on a project to import my logs from 1971 – 1990’s. These were originally kept in a DOS program called TotalHam whose author has since passed away. TotalHam was written in dBase so the conversion and importation was not an easy task. I’ve reached out to Terry, several times, and I imagine at times he’d say – “more questions?” With his assistance, this past weekend, I was able to get most of the contacts imported into Log4OM. There is some missing data, but fortunately I have the QSL’s and paper logs to fill in the missing data.

I wanted to publicly thank Terry for his assistance and dedication to supporting this software. If Log4OM were to become a paid software, my order would be sent immediately! Log4OM works so well that it’s made my operating experience so much more pleasurable.

If I had one wish, it would be that Log4OM would communicate with Flex 6xxx radios via IP, rather than using OmniRig. It’s not a big deal for me, but I’ve heard so many people say that this is the only missing feature. How about a paid update?

It's not matter of "paid" update. I don't have at this time the hardware to work on, so will be hard to work with on the blind.
Also Log4Om is not ready to work with multiple VFO's by design...

It's on my "wish list" and i will probably buy an SDR but i must comply to some hard tasks, starting from "Hi wife, i wish to buy a brand new SDR XYZ MODEL MKII WITH some interesting features blah blah blah..." :)

I've started work on V2 and support for those SDR is in the list of "must do"...

I too would pay in a flash. I have also found Terry to be more than helpful on many occasions. He also knows Log4OM backwards.
Both on the forum or by email, his responses come so fast it is like IM.

Regarding Flex support. To save your money Daniele, I am sure somebody (maybe Flex themselves) could donate a rig that you could operate remotely* and save the money and XYL QRM?

*It is possible to operated a Flex remotely at present. A friend of mine has done it from >20 entities. It is not straight forward to set up, but the next major version of the software will be MUCH easier to set up and work better. Just a thought.

Hi Guy, using a remote flex could be an option, yes.
I don't think Log4Om is popular enough to have a flex radio to test :)

Hi Daniele,

I'd look at it the other way around at how popular Log4OM would be if it had native Flex integration. Maybe the people at Flex could donate some Flex time for you? It would not hurt to ask

Anyway, I do not have any issues with Omnirig at all.

Take care,

Guy
