QSL Management

Post by vk7yum »

Howdy all,

I've had a bit of a search on the forum for this topic but haven't seen anything specific so here is my problem .....

Clicking the Post Box icon (or selecting QSL tools -> QSL Management) brings up a screen that I can select Date range (tick the box and enter valid dates) then click on LOTW tab and click Select required and get nothing listed.

Reading the manual (from page 93 onwards) and following those instructions I get nothing listed.

IF I set the QSL sent status to R (requested) or Q (queued) and follow the instructions again I get a list - yippee!

What I don't get is why I get nothing when the flag is N (no) as that would make more sense to me - QSL hasn't been sent - list it.

Am I missing something or is this the way it is supposed to work? :?

Also, I notice in the manual that on the diagrams for EQSL and LOTW tabs there is a check box marked Use fields as SEARCH PARAMETER but on my screen it just says Search (and below it is Update which isn't shown in the manual)

Also, I see on page 94 of the manual a note pointing to a reference on page 30 - which is about importing an ADIF file? :?

I love the program but am just trying to get my head around this "feature" of quickly listing QSOs for uploading so any comments would be most appreciated. :D

Cheers

Hi David,

I'll try to help here...

The Search tab and the date range act on the other tabs. For example, click on Search tab, check Date range, enter a date range, then click on QSL tab, then click on the Search icon next to Callsign field, and you will see a list of records which fit the date range selected.

Are you clicking on the Search icon next to the callsign field?

Again, are you clicking on the Search icon next to the callsign field? I can click on the QSL tab, then set QSL Sent = 'N' and click on the Search Icon and get a large list of QSO's for which I have not sent a QSL.

The reference to the check box 'Use fields as search parameters' has not been updated in the manual. That has been replaced by the Search and Update radio buttons which you now see. With the Search button selected, the feature works as described in the manual.

I think you found an error in the manual. I believe that note should reference page 44 of the manual which give a link to the standard Windows keyboard shortcut keys...

Let us know if that did not answer your questions or if anything is still unclear.

Thanks Doug,

Ummm maybe I didn't explain myself properly ......

The way you suggest works fine however I am trying to use the "Select required" button ....

If I understand the manual correctly (and its quite possible I am not :D ), if I click on the "Select required" button then a list of EQSL/LOTW (depending on tab selected) not uploaded should display that I can then upload. If the sent status of a QSO is "N" it is not listed, however if the sent status is "Q" or "R" then clicking in the "Select required" button lists them. Its no biggie, I can set JTAlertX to set the flags as "R", but I would have thought that "N" would have been more ..... readable?

Thanks for the reply :)

I think what you want to do first is to download from LOTW then select the QSO's you want to upload to LOTW and go ahead and upload it should work ok for you. I hope I understood what you meant.
good luck

David,

I misunderstood and did not clearly read the "Select Required" button. I have never used that button, and it does not seem to do anything, and is not mentioned in the manual. Maybe Terry can help us out here on the use of that button. On second thought, I wonder if it is just a label to remind the user to select records before Uploading... But it looks like a button...

But, here is how I use the QSL Management window. I only use it for LotW, as I upload to eQSL automatically. So I open the window, click on LotW tab, click on the Search icon at the top. I then get a list of all my QSO's. In that list I have these columns displayed - LOTW Sent status, LOTW Sent Date, LOTW Rcvd Status, LOTW Rcvd Date, as well as the other normal columns - Call, QSO date, QSO Time, Mode, etc. If you need to add those columns to the display, use the Layout button at the bottom left of the window. I then can easily see the latest QSO's I have not uploaded to LotW - those with LOTW Sent Status = N and no date. I then select that range of records I need to upload using click, SHIFT/click, then click on the Up Arrow to upload.

You could do the same thing by clicking on the Search radio button on the left, then pre-selecting LOTW Sent = N, and click on Search. But I like to see all my records so I can see which ones have also been confirmed by LotW, and those which have not.

I hope this helps!

Why not use the QSL Sent status=Q for queued for the upload to LOTW?

Hi Chuck,

I should have mentioned that I change the default status to No for all QSL, eQSL and LotW statuses in Setup, so Q would never show up for me. If you did not change the defaults, that would work.

P.S., I have never understood the rational for Q being the default. I change the QSL Sent status to Q when I want to put a QSL in the Que to print. Otherwise it makes more sense to me to leave them all No until I want to change them. But that may just be me.

Thanks Doug,

As I said, I may have been reading too much into the manual :)

The way you suggest is in fact the way I had been doing it, but over coffee one morning another user said he used the "select required" button which led me to RTFM :)

I'll continue "as is" and not annoy anyone any more ... and I'll try not to think too much either as it clearly only gets me into trouble (ouch! my brain hurts  )

cheers

guess I'm the same as Doug on this - "Q" for print otherwise "N" .... but doesn't matter now - "if it ain't broken - don't fix it " should be my motto :)

I'll go back to lurking in the corner :)
