Cluster (F9) Note & Other Info Columns

Post by KI5IO »

I use VE7CC (CC User) via Port 23 and occasionally run in a separate window on a 2nd monitor as I make some filter adjustments.

I'm trying to under stand why there is a repeat of information in the Cluster (F9) tab in the Note and Other info columns.

Often there will be 2, 3 or even 4 lines of the same text repeated in the Other info column. I think I read in another post where Log4OM is aggregating some data and this could be a representation of that. But ... when I'm only using VE7CC where is that other aggregated data coming from?

Is there a table for the Cluster (F9) display that I could edit and remove the Other info column?

Also ... (for me in USA) ... the state ID abbreviation also shows up in the Note and Other info columns. Could I create a column for the state ID? On my VE7CC display it is in its own column. So again ... not sure how it is getting shuffled about.

Continuing my efforts to learn more and more about Log4OM. GREAT PROGRAM!!!

Hi Nolan,

Not sure why the Other column mimics the Note field info, but it seems the "Other" column displays all notes from aggregated spots, while the note column displays the last note. If you right click on the note field data, a popup window will display with all the notes. I don't want to see the "Other" column either, so I just narrow its width to almost nothing by dragging the divider between the column names to collapse it. You can adjust the other column widths in a similar fashion to optimize the display to your liking.

You can't currently create a new State column. Maybe in Version 2??

I usually do not use the F9 Cluster tab, but open the separate cluster window using the first toolbar button on the left, but all of the above applies just the same to the separate cluster window.

Doug,

Tnx much. After experimenting I also made the 'Other' column a narrow sliver. Not that it is a game changer at all, but (for me) just a tad annoying.

I currently use ve7cc.net:23 for my connection via the first toolbar button. Of course there are a lot of other clusters in there, but I've not dabbled with them much at all (a lot to learn I'm sure if I do use them).

So connecting with Lee's cluster that (as best I can determine) is what appears in the F9 window and in the right column on Log4OM. Looks to me like that is repeated in the 1st toolbar button window.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but still seeking. I'll take another watch to Terry's video and step through the manual again as well.

Might suit your requirements better to use the cluster ungrouped by changing option as below

BTW the multi cluster server aggregator is in version 2 not the current version

Terry,

Tnx. I'm probably looking right past the results, but what is the difference or explanation of grouping and ungrouping the cluster?

I've tried it both ways.

With Dougs method of viewing the cluster there are more visuals on the map view. The map view (I'll call normal operation) only shows a spot for my qth.

Again no overall worries as I'm just trying to better understand what is feeding what and what results I'm getting. Just an education on my part.

Ungrouped = Each time a spot is reported it appears in the list with only the comments and notes for that single spot

e.g
This first is 'Ungrouped' and every time WH6R is spotted on the band it is displayed separately

This is 'Grouped' - Only the latest spot for WH6R is displayed but the notes and comments are grouped in the single field for
all past spots

The F& map is designed just to show your QTH and that of the station entered into the QSO entry window so that the path can be determined whereas the F1 Map shows all spots but does not display the path to the entered call sign.

AHA!!

Your group/ungrouped explanation has certainly cleared up a lot for me as I keep on my "cluster" education path.

Excellent clarification on the maps as well.

Tnx very much Terry.

Hi Nolan,

Glad you are making progress. Yes, the far left toolbar button just opens a separate Cluster window, but repeats same information as the F9 tab. I run 2 to 3 monitors, so I always have the separate cluster window open.

Now something else you might consider, is running CC User (Lee's fine cluster filter program) and have Log4OM feed off of it, instead of directly from the VE7CC cluster. You do that by installing and configuring CC User, then changing the cluster address on the Log4OM connection tab to "127.0.0.1:7300". Detailed steps for doing this are on page 173 of the Log4OM User's Manual - dated 6 Jan 2017. Advantage - a wealth of filtering possibilities. For instance, only receive spots from spotters in your state or adjacent states. And receive skimmer spots. Skimmer spots are the new thing, are automatic and are the best! But they only work on cw and digital modes, for now.

I hope this helps.

Been in middle of project removing tile and thin set from dining room floor in anticipation of putting down another room of hardwood in our house. Always one project at a time it seems. Glad I'm semi retired to have time to do such and save labor fees as well.

I'll do the tweaking you pointed out for Lee's cluster. I've had it running in the background often and have filters set and adjust them as well from time to time to see different things. I've only logged in via port 23 at ve7cc.com.

Another step forward in my ongoing education.

Tnx.

Delay in reply, but wood floor has been installed and I've had eye surgery ... now recovering quite well!!

Got VE7CC set up as Doug & Terry suggested above and I'm still working through my occasional mental blocks with setting up the filters ... especially when it comes to letting "special" callsigns to pass or not pass.

Noted that on CC User that Skimmers all have the "#" symbol noted on the DX tab.

I was trying to equate that to the "*" I'm seeing on the cluster display (far right panel) in Log4OM. That symbol does not show up in the separate window display of the Cluster Connection (F3).

Seeking clarification on that one please ??
