Trying to get setup on V2

Post by W4ATX »

I just downloaded 2.3.0.0 and I'm lost!

I have my database set up and everything is imported from my version 1 via ADIF import.

It appears that there is no way to migrate version 1 settings over to version 2...is this correct? I was using WSJTAlert and PSTRotator.

If there is no way to migrate settings...where do I start? I spent (literally) several days getting all working the first time around; not looking forward to having to step through all that mess again!

OK...found my answer way down on page 9 of questions...no migration! Bummer. Not looking forward to fighting this bear again.

Rich,

Log4OM V2 is a complete new structure. Please take the time to read the Quick Start Guide and "at least" the first sections of the User Guide that steps you through the initial installation and setup of V2. It is not at all difficult.

There are also many YouTube videos that have been done to help provide you with visuals of the initial setup.

Your comments are a clear indication that you have not taken the time to look at those guides.

Setting up WSJT-x is on Page 144 of the User Guide. Information about setting up JTAlert is on Page 146. PSTrotator setup is on Page 140 of the User Guide.

I will assume that your label of WSJTAlert means that you use WSJT-x and JTAlert for your FT8 Q's.

Download URL for program (you already have) and the User & Quick Start Guides: https://www.log4om.com/download/

YouTube Quick Start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gvR_Ngpeqw

YouTube Configuration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVYzSbEQT00

I recommend that you periodically check for new User Guide updates from within the V2 program. Help / User Guide / English (force update) There have been many updates since V2 was first released as we keep adding features and with input from OMs (such as yourself) help address items that may need fine-tuning in the Guides.

Welcome to V2 and I'm sure you will enjoy working with the new version.

Thanks for the reply. I really did look through the user guide for each piece that I was having issues with. I'm slowly whittling away at the issues. As to the PSTRotator setup guide on page 140...that is absolutely useless! It is just a screenshot of what you see when you get into that tab. It offers NO help in what you really have to plug in over on the "Connections" button. I have resorted to Googling for info but almost every hit comes back regarding V1 setup.

Rich,

Scan through the Forum as I know this setup has been discussed by a number of OMs already.

Here are many posts I found doing a quick search of the V2 Forum.

Thanks Nolan...I've already seen all of those posts. The bulk of those are really only from 2 different threads; mine and one other.

I am currently using the settings from the post that is NOT mine:

Second question:
Version 1 had the "Communicator" that ran in your task bar. Am I correct in thinking that version 2 has done away with this separate running module?

Also, I am seeing references to PSTRotator being "driven" by LOG4OM or WSJT-X. Which one should I be using? Is there an advantage of one over the other?

Rich,

You noted above that you are using settings from another post. Does that mean that you now have communications between Log4OM V2 and your PSTRotator?

RE: V1 Communicator has been replaced in V2 by Configuration / Software Integration / ...... You will find a section there for the PSTRotator.

As for WSJT-x driving the PSTRotator ... NO ... You set Log4OM V2 up to communicate with PSTRotator. You utilize the Connections and possibly the WSJT-x / JTDX sections to set up those APPs and also JTAlert if you happen to use that APP as well. Directions for connecting those APPs starts on Page 144 of the User Guide.

Other team members or even other OMs who have their PSTRotators configured and operating will chime in and give help as well. I personally can't help you with the PSTRotator as I do not have one at my station.

Thanks so much for using V2 and taking the steps to get your specific elements connected and operating to your needs.

Many thanks for your help so far!

Sorry, no communications yet. I showed those settings as what the other fellow had used to get his working. Still no joy on my end. You answered most of my questions as to how it *should* work... I will continue searching/trying. ;)

OK, I am beginning to think that *maybe* I just don't understand the integration and how it is supposed to work. I was never able to find any documentation in the V2 manual that covered this. Version 1 manual gives a couple of items almost as a side note but not complete (in my opinion).

I stumbled across this while trying to understand: If I have a call sign loaded into LOG4OM and then click on the azimuth number shown, that azimuth is transferred to PSTRotator.

The rotator still does not activate...I still have to click "Go" in PSTRotator. Is this all the integration is supposed to do? I was expecting something much more automatic, as in once a call sign is loaded the antenna is turned to the proper azimuth. Am I way off base here? Is there some documentation that fully describes this?
