QRZCOM data

Post by ki5fty »

I have QRZCOM set as my external datasource and I am an XML subscriber and I have entered my access key in settings for qrzcom. Since switching to log4om2 from HRD I no longer get the operators age which I would get from QRZ in the past. I have verified that the birth year is available for these operators but it is not getting populated into log4om2. Any suggestions as to where to look for an error to track down?

Louis,

In my few years as an OM (since 1970) I've never downloaded or seen a need to download an OM's age. I've never seen such in the many logging APPs I've used over the years.

I do know that having one's age visible on QRZ is possible, but it is an option that is tic'd on/off by the OM when they set up their profile.

That being said there currently is not any field in the Log4OM V2 (or V1) database to collect and save an OM's age or birthdate.

My suggestion would be for you to just then log into QRZ and see if the OM has opted to show his birthdate/age and then maybe place it in the notes field for that QSO you are having with him/her.

Honestly ... this is the first time I've heard of this request and I appreciate you bringing it to the table.

Age is what caught my attention in looking at the data table from my import from hrd and qso's logged from Log4OM directly. I do have a query where I measure the average age of contacts in different modes as an unscientific measure of how widely a mode is adopted and by what age stratification. The other field I find missing is the website url of the contact, that I do enjoy clicking to read more from my contacts.

You may think it silly and it probably is but I have was a data analyst for part of my career and and like to play with queries and data.

Louis,

As you have strong feelings for such items then I suggest that you present them in the Forum here under Feature Suggestions. Then other OMs can review and add input should they choose and also it will present to both the Alpha & Beta teams items for consideration to be added in future updates.

As for the OMs website URLs you can easily click on the Web Lookup button when you have an OM's callsign in the Main UI. A browser window will open taking you to either QRZ or HamQTH depending upon which info provider you have selected as your prime source. If an OM has a website he might have it listed at QRZ or HamQTH.
