Icom 7610 and CAT Mode Response

Post by KJ9Z »

I am using an Icom 7610 - Firmware: 1.3
The transceiver is configured as follows (Menu > Set > Connectors > CI-V):

CI-V Baud Rate: Auto
CI-V Address: 98h
CI-V Transceive: OFF
CI-V USB/LAN>REMOTE Transceive Address: 00h
CI-V Output (for ANT): OFF
CI-V USB Port: Unlink from [REMOTE]
CI-V USB Baud Rate: Auto
CI-V USB Echo Back: ON

I am trying to set up CAT in Log4OM 2 v.2.23.0.0
(NOT using other software such as FLDigi, WSJT, OmniRig, etc.)

I have successfully used CAT with my current logging software (XMLog and N3FJP). I am using the recommended Icom USB drivers and the same USB cable I use with that software.

After connecting to the 7610, Log4OM tracks the frequency and the band when I change them using the radio controls. I can also change the radio frequency and band from the Log4OM main window or the CAT Control Screen. If I change the Mode from the CAT Control Screen, the radio follows the command.

The problem is this:
When the radio controls are used to change the mode, the Log4OM Mode dropdown value does not change to reflect the radio setting. Log4OM launches with the mode indicating RTTY initially, but does not change when I change the radio mode directly.

The question is:
Is Log4OM supposed to reflect radio Mode changes the same way it tracks frequency and band?

I have included screen shots of the Log4OM CAT configuration. Computer details are at the end of this post.

I have searched the forum and read the manual for expected behavior. If I missed it, can someone point me to the appropriate information?

Radio responds to frequency changes from this main window. This window also reflects radio frequency and band changes. This window does not reflect mode changes from the radio.

The radio frequency, band and mode respond to this CAT Control. Log4OM main window also responds to this CAT Screen including the Mode. But, change the mode from the radio and neither window responds.

Please instal Omnirig 1.2 from the Afreet Web site and use thar for CAT control and report the results

I have never had any success with Hamlib with any of my Icom radios over the last decade or 2 but Omnirig usually works fine

I will look into omnirig and report back if I decide to do that. I am a new Log4OM user, just test driving it right now. It is light years more complex than XMLog and not sure I want to make the move or not. I like what I see, but this issue is right out of the gate and it has me wondering ...

On a side note, has anyone reported trouble with the accuracy of the ITU zones? I have seen several I had to correct.

Thank you for responding.

Terry
Per your suggestion, I installed OmniRig 1.2 and that seems to have corrected my problems. Log4OM now responds to the mode changes of the IC-7610 and the CAT Screen controls the 7610 more consistently.

I made no changes to the 7610 from what I presented in the first post.

CI-V Baud Rate: Auto
CI-V Address: 98h
CI-V Transceive: OFF
CI-V USB/LAN>REMOTE Transceive Address: 00h
CI-V Output (for ANT): OFF
CI-V USB Port: Unlink from [REMOTE]
CI-V USB Baud Rate: Auto
CI-V USB Echo Back: ON

The OmniRig setup shown here.

Note:
I am currently not running any other software that communicates with the 7610.
I left the 7610 baud rates set to auto and selected 19200 for OmniRig. I have not tried any other settings. Right now, all seems fine.

Hope this helps someone else.

Thank you very much for your suggestion.
