Distance incorrections?
Distance incorrections?
After putting in a call sign to get started in logging a QSO, why is the distance calculations always incorrect? I always have to manually go to QRZ.COM to get the correct distance.

Re: Distance incorrections?
What internet service have you selected in Log4om for call lookup?
Do you pay for a QRZ subscription
Have you entered your correct grid reference in the station information tab of the Log4om options
If the answer to any or all of the above is no then Log4om cannot provide an accurate distance or heading because we use the grid reference of both stations for this calculation.

HamQTH

NO

Yes, of course I do have my locator in the settings correctly entered.

So. are you saying that a $30 yearly subscription is required to get accurate data? if the answer is yes then the software instructions and description should state that...

No I am not saying that! So. are you saying that a $30 yearly subscription is required to get accurate data? if the answer is yes then the software instructions and description should state that...
We need the other stations locator to accurately work out the distances and unlike HamQTH the QRZ people do not provide that in the XML download unless you pay them money - This is not our fault!
This is why we provide HamQTH support which is free and providing you have registered and then entered your user name and password into Log4om you will get accurate data, providing the locator is available from HamQTH.
Please let me have some specific call signs that you are getting incorrect data returned so that I can do some tests.

By the way page 16 of the user guide clearly states:
"The QRZ lookup will not function properly if the user does not have a paid subscription to QRZ for XML downloads, however some data will be returned from QRZ if the user is just a "Ham" member of QRZ but it will be missing some very important data"
Because of your complaint I will now add that the important data missing includes the grid square!
This issue of QRZ withholding information unless you pay them has been discussed on this and other forums many times, as a simple search would have revealed.

Anyway, to check, we need to know the counterpart callsign.
if he doesn't filled his grid square information in hamqth we cannot phone him to ask his locator
