Hello Log4Om team,
I am currently a user of HRD 5.38, which served me well over the years, but I am now evaluating Log4Om as a possible replacement. Log4om looks very promising and has a lot of nice features, for which the team behind must be certainly commended. However, there are a number of potential improvements which in my opinion can make this software even more useful, especially for managing awards.
Here are my 3 wishes:
1. DXCC QSL credit granted status update. I hold the DXCC Challenge and manually updating the status of more than 1000 QSL is not something one would ever be delighted to do. One can download now form its DXCC account the ADIF file containing both the LoTW QSLs and paper QSLs granted/credited. This item is on top of my list because I have seen other similar requests being made in the past but no commitment has been acknowledged about implementing this feature.
2. The second is related in a way to the first request. IOTA makes available a CSV list with the QSLs credited. There has to be a way to update the status of the QSLs for an award using a CSV file. While these are non-issues for a lot of simple awards, for those pursuing more difficult awards requiring hundreds/thousands of QSLs, it is a critical item. Ideally, updating the credited/granted status using an ADIF or CSV file should be available within each award page.
3. HRD (and many other loggers) are storing the SF, K and A values for each QSO. It is nice to be able to look back at past QSOs and see what the propagation indexes and where they were at that time. I am well aware of the fact that this means Log4Om will have to download these values from SWPC/NOOA or other sources at each start-up . Currently it looks like L4O even ignores the SFI, K and A indices when importing an ADIF file form another log... there is no reason to do that.
I (for myself) consider these improvements more important than other cosmetic improvements like a bigger clock, frequency readout or alikes.
Again, thank you for the wonderful software and all the hard work which went into it as well as for the support you provide.

Re: QSL credit/granted status update using ADIF or CSV files
Florin,
I have just checked our Mantis list and your item number 1 is listed as added back in February, I cannot check if it is working because I don't chase DXCC awards so my downloads do not have any credit information. Have you actually tried the LOTW download or ADIF merge features in Log4om?
The IOTA file merge is on our Mantis list as pending and I am pushing for this as it is of interest to me
Automatic propagation data update of a QSO during QSO entry is part of a large new feature that we are currently working on, watch this space.

Re: QSL credit/granted status update using ADIF or CSV files
Thanks Terry for the quick response.
Re. item 1, unless there is something I didn’t do right here, I couldn’t update the status of the DXCC credits/granted using the DXCC adif file.
Downloading the LoTW adif file I was able to update the status of the LoTW QSLs with the DXCC granted status, but this file contains no info about the paper QSLs. The DXCC adif file is different than the LoTW adif file. It contains data about the paper QSLs as well as the LoTW QSLs. Trying to merge the DXCC adif will only generate a bunch of errors without updating the DXCC granted status.
The DXCC adif file has just a limited number of fields (no time stamp, just date), here is an example:
<CALL:4>3D2R
<QSO_DATE:8>20110930
<APP_LoTW_MODEGROUP:2:S>CW
<MODE:2>CW
<BAND:3>15M
<DXCC:3>460
<COUNTRY:6>ROTUMA
<CREDIT_GRANTED:24>DXCC,DXCC_MODE,DXCC_BAND
<APP_LoTW_CREDIT_GRANTED:40:S>DXCC-M,DXCC-CW,DXCC-15,DXCC-CHAL,DXCC-5B
<eor>
As most of the DXCC users have both paper QSL credits and LoTW credits, this is a major problem… Only the DXCC adif can be used to update ALL the DXCC credits in the log.
Is there something else I could check?
Thank you,
Florin VA7CRZ

Re: QSL credit/granted status update using ADIF or CSV files
This is the first time that I have ever heard of any ADIF file from DXCC that included the paper QSL information!
Please email me your DXCC ADIF file which includes the paper QSL confirmations and also let me have the location of the download
Does this DXCC ADIF which has the paper QSL information permit software interrogation for the download or is it only a manual system?
Perhaps Chuck would also comment because he is our DXCC award Guru, as I stated I have zero interest in any of the DXCC awards so I am not really the best guy to advise you.

Re: QSL credit/granted status update using ADIF or CSV files
Hi Terry,
This DXCC ADIF containing all the credits- paper and LoTW, is available for more than half a year. It can be found in the LoTW member’s account , under Awards / DXCC Award Account /Award Account Menu/ DXCC QSL Download. Downloading this file is just manual at this time.
I already sent you an email with my DXCC adif file.
Thanks for looking into that,
Florin VA7CRZ

Re: QSL credit/granted status update using ADIF or CSV files
Hi Florin .... checked my LotW account and found the ADIF download link. O.k. it´s an empty ADIF here and the reason ist that í´m a LotW user but not a DXCC collector. So i have no awarded or granted QSL´s in LotW (only simple confirmations). I think the problematic is the same as ADIF 3.0. The ARRL changes different things an do not inform any logbook software authors. And if the authors of a logbook software are not informed the users have problems like you. I think Daniele will take a look about this and if it´s possible i think also that he can make some changes for special things like this.
@ ARRL PLEASE CHANGE YOUR INFORMATION POLICY

We're thinking about a possible integration with this file (manual download will probably be required)
Stay tuned

Excellent news!

It would be very good, we can have Iota and DXCC awards updated correctly in a very easy way.

Yes manuel, but remember that the "official source" of your statistics is the program website (IOTA or DXCC, or anyone else).
It's the only official, despite the data you have in your log

At this time Daniele is referring to the DXCC award credits not the IOTA CSV
IOTA CSV is on the Mantis list but I can't forecast when it will be added
