Plot KML trouble

Post by G3WOS »

I'm a new user so I'm trying to learn everything in parallel after importing a short ADIF file - four logbooks to manually convert using Fast Log Entry program to go - but...

Select QSO Archive - Search - Select All - Plot KML - show 4-digit grid map - Generate KML ---- WORKING

and nothing happens - Google Earth is not triggered.

Anything obvious I'm not doing correctly.

Google Earth works fine as a stand alone program.

Chris
This is usually caused by your computer not having .KML files associated to the Google Earth program

Control panel/programs/default programs/set file associations

Select .kml from the list and click the change program button - Select Google Earth

Thanks Tony

Yes, I've checked that and .kml IS associated Google Earth.

So Google Earth does not open?

Have you selected QSO's?

Check that you are following the instructions from page 87 of this revised user guide

Hi Tony

Yes, all QSOs selected and have been doing what the manual says.

The red working pop-up comes up and disappears a few seconds later but Google Earth is not started.

Using a standard W7 installation and have not loaded log4om on any other XP or W8.1 machine yet.

Chris,
My name is Terry not Tony!

Has to be something local to your machine stopping GE from opening by command from Log4om

Please activate "Debug" in the Settings and then go through the GE locator print procedure again

Then before closing Log4OM save the log file (Help/Show Log) and email it to me direct

DO NOT PUBLISH YOUR LOG FILE ON THIS FORUM

Ok I am going to ask a really stupid question, please don't be offended :D

Do the QSO's that you are selecting have locator (grid square) data in the Grid Square field?

You might also like to send me a copy of your logbook, the ?????.sqlite file

Terry - no not offended at all - I've spent my life asking such questions!

Yes they have - I just selected 4 that definitely have with the same result.

Yes, I'll send you the file - there is only 136 records so far inputted.

Terry - all my grid squares are 4 digits. I changed one QSO to a 6 digit grid and all worked fine.

I only want to enter 4 digit grids though as this is all I note in my paper logbook.

I hope this can be put in as a 'feature enhancement'. Certainly on 6M we most often only pass 4 digit grids.

I least I found the cause!
