Log4OM at 115200 baud, OK?

Post by kd7mw »

I remember having problems running Log4OM connectivity at 15200 baud. It was on a 10 year old computer. Log4OM worked erratically at that speed. Yet Win4Icom would connect reliably at that speed. Is this a known problem, or was it something to do with old my computer/serial ports? Does Log4OM have a maximum reliable baud rate?

I'm asking because I now have a new computer, and have several software setups integrating Win4Icom, Log4OM, SDR Console and one of three digital programs: JTDX, WSJT-X and FlDigi. They all use OmniRig. I have everything working at 38400 baud, using OmniRig and all programs running as Administrator. However, if I run Win4Icom at 38400, I lose the ability to display my Icom 7300's waterfall on the computer. I'd like to be able to do this sometimes.

One of my setups has Win4Icom as the "boss" program, talking to the 7300 at 115200 baud on COM7, and talking to the other programs with over virtual serial ports at 38400. Win4Icom can do this, and it works fine. Another setup does not run Win4Icom at all, so Log4OM is the "boss," so it must talk directly to the 7300 on COM7.

The 7300 has an "Automatic" baud rate option, so (theoretically) it can switch rates if an app talks to it as a new rate. The problem comes when I try to switch setups. All I should have to do is change the COM port and baud rate in OmniRig. This works--sometimes. But sometimes it doesn't, and this leads to cascades of errors. Sometimes I have to cycle power to the 7300, and all's well. But sometimes I have to log off the computer or reboot it.

All this could be solved if I could run everything at 115200 baud. Is this possible?
