Flex 8400 not working 100% with Log4OM

Post by k4em »

L4M ver 2.35.1
SmartSDR latest ver 3.8.23
Tried Omni Rig 1.19 and 1.20

Hamlib config doesn't work at all. I think I'd prefer to use HamLib than Omnirig. I am wondering if Flex has some new features in Software and hardware. I think L4M is not the issue but something else. Also, L4m works perfect with my Icom 7300 and Apache Labs 7000DLE MKII (which I sold just before buying the 8400). I wasn't using Omnirig with the Anan all TCPIP connections.

Using the Flex 8400 L4M works very well with WSJT-X Improved, I'm using a TCPIP connection. L4M follows band changes, it logs to L4M normally. But doesn't work at all if I go to SSB. L4M may follow one band change than gets hung, mode changes or freq adjustments do not change with the mouse.
But Flex 8400 works with ACLog , in rig setup using the FLEXapi in ACLog. ACLog did not work using the FlexRadio setting. Swiss Log does not work either, seems to have same issue as L4M.
Been working on this on/off for 3 days. I have tried everything I can think of.

Is there a way to update Hamlib? I didn't see HamLib under 'Settings/Program schedular'. In WSJT-X Improved they have a HamLib update button, works very well.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

FYI, Mike Black - W9MDB, the main support and developer of Hamlib became an SK this past spring.

Hamlib is open source, but I have no idea who is spearheading its support/development. Especially after Mike's passing.

I cant test because I dumped my Flex a little while ago but I recall it worked OK using the Hamlib Network connection but it was more stable using SmartCat and Omnirig.

Some users seem content using Slicemaster as detailed in our user guide.

Dont forget that is using WSJT programs and Omnirig that you MUST select Omnirig rig 1 or 2 in the WSJT radio configuration, not the actual radio type.

I wish more SDR software would implement TCI as it works faultlesly with my Anan, Hermes Lite 2 and SunSDR2 DX and most Joe Taylor WSJT derivitives

Thanks Terry,

I did NOT have Omnirig1 selected in WSJT, I had Flexradio 6xxx. All working now. L4M now tracks in SSB mode and freq changes all OK.

You are correct about TCI, works flawlessly in the Anan. Too bad Rich wasn't going to add the audio component to TCI in Thetis. I still had to use VAC for audio.

I've had the Flex 8400 since Saturday and am very impressed with the rig. The SmartCAT & DAX work very well. The Profiles are a little confusing but just a long learning curve for me. Thetis has more bells & whistles, but SSDR seems to be working so far.

I'm curious what Flex Aurora is all about, guess we'll have to wait till Saturday or Sunday.

Thanks,
Dave
