Recording paper QSLs in QSL Manager

Post by ve3nr »

I'm still receiving paper QSLs and want to record them. Unfortunately, nothing seems to work in QSL Manager. I'm following the instructions in the latest user guide to no avail. No contacts are showing up in the lower section of the window and typing in a call sign doesn't have any effect at all. IOW, nothing works. What am I doing wrong. Please advise. Thanks.

I forgot to mention I'm using Windows 10 Home and User Guide 17/07/2022.

Hi Terry,
Log4OM version is 2.23.0.0
Attached file as per your request.

I've also watch your video on Youtube re. recording paper QSL and when I try to do the same I don't get the same response on my screen. As an example, when you're putting in different call signs in the CALLSIGN field, you get an immediate response in the window below showing the call signs you're looking for. When I do the same nothing happens. Thanks

1. Having entered the call sign do you press the enter/return key on your keyboard?

2. Have you tried a clean install of Log4OM

Thanks for all comments and suggestions. I have tried them all!
Terry, yes I have entered the call sign and pressed the enter key. No response.
I have not tried a clean install of Log4OM but will do that tomorrow.
After the clean install I'll let you know how it turned out.

I've now re-installed Log4OM ver. 2.23.0.0, but I don't know if this constitutes a "clean" install. I'm saying that because after the new installation, all my config data was still there, all contacts and all other info that I'd put in. The long and short is that it's still not working.

Now, should I've done another kind of "uninstall" to have a clean installation?

Bert,

Some steps here for clarification:
  • On the Main UI when you select the Recent QSO's (F7) tab do your Q's appear?
  • If you see your Q's with the above step ... with the QSL Manager open and QSL is selected. Do you get a list of your Q's when you tap the green Search button? Do NOT put any callsign in the 'callsign' field for this listing of all your Q's.
  • I entered a call (n7us) and tapped search for my list of Q's with him just as an example of my results.
I've attached screen clips of my QSL Manager settings and results of the steps I outlined above.

Hi Nolan,

Thanks for your reply and comments.

Yes, when I click on F7 I can see my QSOs.

Yes, when I have QSL Manager open and click on Search, QSOs will appear after a very looong time.
I don't know if that's normal. When I'm watching Terry's videos, the QSOs seem to appear immediately.

Entering a call sign and tapping Search doesn't result in anything. No QSOs show up.

I still have doubts if I really did a so called "clean installation", so please let me know how you do that.

I would also appreciate you letting me know how to do Screen Print, so I can post them on the forum. Last time I was asked to provide a screen print, I had to take a photo with my cellphone and post it. Bad quality! Thanks.

Bert,

OK ... couple more things:
  • How many Q's in your database? Are you using SQLite or MySQL for your database?
  • You can change the number of Q's shown in the Grids at: Settings/Configuration/Program Settings ... You can lower the GRID default row count to something less that the default. For this effort select 3000 and then tap Save and Apply and then restart Log4OM V2. Your entire d/b of Q's is still available ... just speeds up the APPs Grid display a tad. You can change it back after this if you like.
  • When QSL Manager is open and you have selected QSL ... also change the "Sent" field to have nothing showing. IE: Remove "No".
  • Then enter in a callsign and see if 'something' will show up.
When you initially installed Log4OM V2 did you accept and thus use the default locations the program will auto-select? Or did you specify other locations during the installation?

Reinstalling over one's installed version usually will resolve any hiccups that may have happened during an installation. So ... yes ... I'm dragging my feet on taking a step to rename certain files and then have Windows remove Log4OM V2 and then go through a complete new installation. One just has to re-enter all the basic information from the git-go and I'm trying to avoid that step.

As for an APP to take screen clips and save as JPGs for sharing. I use a legacy APP that is packaged with Windows 10. It is called: Snipping Tool ... It is located in the system32 folder and the official name is: SnippingTool.exe

There is a newer version of the above called Snip & Sketch that is also packaged with Windows 10. You can find it by clicking on the Start button at the lower left corner of your Windows desktop display. Then scroll down the list of programs until you see Snip & Sketch. You can add it to your start menu, desktop and task bar if you like.

I prefer to use the older Snipping Tool only because I've used it for so many years.

Either one can be configured to capture an active window, full desktop or by drawing a select box around an area. Then you can save that selected/captured area as a JPG and go from there.

Terry will likely add more pertinent information before long.
