Alert Management: Alert on Award Table

Post by wo9b »

Use Case: Trying to set up alerts for the 13 Colonies Event. The problem is I cannot filter By Stats as my log contains past years entries. :(

I was thinking I could filter based on "Alert on Award Table" as I have setup the 13 Colonies Event as an Award..and the award tracking works great. The problem is I don't know how to have that Award show up in the list of Alert on Award in the Awards Tab of Alert Management. I don't see any way to affect that list and don't know how it is generated.

The other solution would be to include a date range filter in the By Stats tab. That seems to be a more involved solution however.

Any help / direction is appreciated. Thanks

MJ,

I use and have used for many years ... the Alert Management routine found at: Settings / Alert Configuration

I create an Alert Rule for 13 Colonies, Route 66, Lewis & Clark, Bigfoot, etc., etc..

I then add the related callsigns for the event, select "cluster" and the Alert Source (or you could choose 'any'.

Then I tap the save diskette symbol to save the newly created Alert. I then slide the toggle to either enable or disable the Alert when I want to use it.

It helped me very much with the kickoff of 13 Colonies this AM as I was able to log a Q with 12 of 16 stations this AM before I headed off for my cancer infusion treatment at noon today. BTW - I am a CW only station here.

There are some tweaks I hope Lele can add to some of the edit features of an established Alert rule, but that will be another day I'm sure.

Hi Nolan....

I agree with you and that is what I have been doing too. The alerts that pop up are at a furious rate and that is a bit annoying. What I was hoping to accomplish was to limit the alerts by using the "By Stats" tab so that once I worked a station, it would no longer trigger another alert for the same station. I was going to click the "New ONE" button. The problem is that I've been doing the 13 Col's for a number of years now, so there are no "New One's" any more. The logging program has the memory of an elephant and counts the past years QSO's towards invalidating the alerts. There are no date limiting fields in the alert criteria.

I also set up the 13 Colonies as an Award via the Award Manager. The Award Manager has a date range limiting feature, so each year I only have to input the date range (July 1st through July 7th for this year). That effectively wipes the award tally slate clean and past years QSO's are not reported in the Award Status reports.

Which then leads to the reason for my original post. One of the limiting criteria for alerts is Award based. Unfortunately my custom 13 Colonies award does not show up on the list generated in the Alert Management tab. Ergo I was wondering how to get it to show up, if that is even possible.

This is strictly a convenience request. Certainly not a life/death type of issue. I appreciate your post!!

MJ,

AHA ... I now better understand your methodology. I also have 13 Colonies 'awards' set up, but never looked to linking into the Alert portion. There are elements in the Alert Configuration, but as I've tried in the past for other testing could not get them to work.

Might I suggest that you lay out your steps, thoughts, etc.. in a concise and clear post and put it in the Feature Suggestion of the Forum.

I'll also look into what you have suggested and see if I can also come up with something relevant.

BTW ... Bands and the CW 13 Colonies OPs have been busy today. I picked up two more this evening. I'll likely get TM13COL tomorrow AM, but won't be holding my breath for GD13COL as I've never heard them since I started with the 13 Colonies SE in 2012.

Good luck on the GB13COL quest. I had to resort to FT8 to complete the sweep last year. Like you, being a CW op that felt like I was surrendering...

I'll put together a post for the feature request subforum as you suggest. Good idea.

Enjoy the 13 Colonies event. Always a treat.

MJ,

Well (as for GB13COL) ... unless they magically appear in my cluster feed on CW I'm not going to lose sleep over not getting them since I started in 2012 with 13 Colonies. I removed all the FTxx APPs from my PC many years ago. Just don't like dealing with that mode.

I was modifying my Alert Configuration as I was digging into your thread noted above. I've added in many of the 13 Colonies to see how things trigger when I have them selected via Award, etc. as you have noted.

My 13 Colonies Award does show up in my selection list so I'm scratching my heard to figure out why yours does not.

Here is a screen clip of my main Awards chosen that I follow. I've also added the Award dropdown visibility in my Alert Configuration.

Your post in Features is also spot on.

Nolan,

Thanks for the nudge. Briefly, the award showed up on the Award List in my Alert Management tab after I created a second instance under a different name (Orig was 13COL, Renamed to 13_Colonies. Then it disappeared. I must have something not quite kosher. I've been through it several times without finding the witches brew needed to make it appear on the list.

Something is flakey. I'm not sure it is worth the effort to get it working as the event is all but over. :(

Thank you for the follow up

MJ,

Whatever personal award you create you need to also (if so desired) to move it to the "active" column of awards ... as is shown in one of my added clips above.

I have gotten very 'selective' as to which awards I show on a daily usage basis. I can always add WAS, WAC, etc., etc.. when I want to see such, but try to just keep the awards of interest to me at the current time in the 'active' column.

Once in that column then they 'should' appear in all such related dropdowns in Log4OM.

And, yes, 13 Colonies not far from being over for 2025. I've already mailed my certificate application so I'm way ahead of the curve this year.

Nice on getting your application in early. Congrats.

User Preferences: I had noted that on your graphics and confirmed that I had it set the same. Still no joy.

Thanks for the assist. I'm sure it is some obscure setting that is causing the issue.

Nolan,
Why not send him your award file to import into his set up?
